Guardians of Nature: How Biological Cycles Preserve Biodiversity

Each year, the juliArt team dedicates a day to environmental stewardship, pausing their regular duties to support a healthier planet. This year, over a hundred employees, along with stakeholders, suppliers, and sustainability partners, gathered at Yilan Toucheng Farm to learn about biodiversity and circular agriculture.

Why is biodiversity paramount?

We celebrate individuality, which naturally leads to embracing diversity. This belief aligns with our commitment to sustainability, as we prioritize and focus on biodiversity.

Specific initiatives undertaken

  • Sensory Exploration Competition: Participants explored organic gardening and ecological farming. This experience offered insights into circular economy models and a greater appreciation for sustainable agriculture. They also learned about botanical oils like tea tree and organic aloe vera powder, key ingredients in juliArt’s hair care products.
  • Cultivation of Resilient Plants and Native Vegetables: The produce was carefully packaged and donated to local organizations, reflecting our commitment to the community.
  • Upcycling of Secondary Space Mushroom Bag Materials: By using these materials on the forest floor, we enriched the soil with organic matter, supporting firefly larvae and enhancing firefly diversity.
  • Hedge Planting: Establishing hedgerows provided nectar and habitats for insects, creating a self-sustaining ecosystem for our gardens, allowing us to grow vegetables without pesticides or chemical fertilizers.

Collective Achievements

  • United a diverse coalition: We brought together 25 corporate partners and 153 employees, including both upstream and downstream stakeholders, to drive meaningful change.

  • Enhanced the local ecosystem: By cultivating 160 square meters of native vegetables and hedges, and donating the produce to the local St. Francis Nursing Home, we significantly contributed to our community’s well-being.

  • Promoted biodiversity: We supported local firefly restoration by recycling 50 kilograms of secondary space mushroom bags, boosting eco-tourism and agricultural education initiatives that benefit over 20,000 people annually.

We aspire to create a ripple effect with these endeavors, inspiring all those who value ecological preservation to join us in cherishing our environment. Together, we can accumulate small acts of stewardship to forge a more sustainable future.
