Revitalizing Rural Education

“Education is the key to unlocking the world, a passport to freedom.’’ – Oprah Winfrey.

It has been taken for granted that everyone has the basic right to education, especially in developed countries. However, a large portion of children in rural areas around the world are lacking access to quality education, which includes qualified teachers, inadequate teaching materials, and poor infrastructures where children are exposed to an unhealthy environment.

UNICEF: 617M children failed to learn basic knowledge

According to UNICEF, there are 617 million children as well as adolescents who failed to learn basic knowledge though almost half of them attended school.

Share what we have to the local society

A similar situation occurs in Taiwan and the gap in quality education between rural and urban areas is becoming widening.

juliArt has been dedicated to reducing inequality in education. We donate 1% of yearly revenue to educational charities to support and improve rural education. We also integrate environmental sustainability in business operations as a way to bring a positive impact on society.

We focus on two initiatives that can be broken down externally and internally

Externally: Establishing a cooperation method with non-profit organizations.

juliArt partnered with RE-THINK to cultivate environmental awareness in schools. With more than 9 years of experience in marine environmental protection, RE-THINK integrated juliAr’ts products into their recycling courses to spread environmental awareness in schools.

Re Think a well-known non-profit organization that aims not only to solve the ocean’s trash problem but transform Taiwan’s environmental education through design, education, and innovation.

Internally: Boosting employee engagement in CSR initiatives

Apart from engaging in CSR initiatives with NGOs, juliArt also encourages its employees to get involved in community activities and volunteering. The shortage of teachers in Taiwan’s rural schools caused them to manage multiple tasks. Hence, to appreciate and motivate those teachers, juliArt volunteered to provide free scalp checkups and teach them how to select appropriate shampoos through a series of events and workshops.

Through partnering up with NGOs and motivating employees to engage in CSR activities, juliArt has helped narrow the gap between urban and rural education in Taiwan whilst raising awareness of environmental protection.

As a B Corp., juliArt will continue to seek new approaches to deliver the values to the community, environment, and all stakeholders.
